Installing Japanese on Windows XP/20001. Click on Start and go to Control Panel. 2. If using Classic view, click on Regional and Language Options. If using Category view, click on Date, Time, Language and Regional Options and then Regional and Language Options. see image 3. Click on the Languages tab, and check the box for Install files for East Asian Languages. Click Apply. (you might need to insert your installation CD to install files for these languages.) see image 4. Press the Details button, and then click Add on the window that pops up. Under Input language, choose Japanese; Under Keyboard layout/IME choose Microsoft IME Standard. Click OK. see image 5. Click the Language Bar button in the Preferences section. Make sure the checkboxes for both Show the Language bar on the desktop and Show additional Language bar icons in the taskbar are checked. Click OK. see image 6. Choose the Advanced tab and check the box for Extend support of advanced text services to all programs. Click OK. see image 7. Restart your computer when asked to do so. When your computer is restarted you should see the Language bar on your Taskbar or Desktop. 8. Click on the EN square (or whatever default language your computer is set to) and choose JP. Click on the button with an "A" on it and change the input mode to whatever you want (probably Hiragana-- this includes conversion of recgonized words to kanji and katakana). You may also switch between input languages with a keyboard shortcut (usually Left Alt-Shift) that you can set by clicking the Key Settings button next to the Language Bar button mentioned in step 5. see image |
